Colombia settle quickly after the restart
Néstor Lorenzo’s men have started the second half with confidence, keeping possession well and dictating the tempo through James Rodriguez and Jefferson Lerma in the heart of midfield.
Almost all of Colombia’s attacks are flowing through the experienced duo, with Rodriguez orchestrating play and Lerma providing the platform. Portugal are being pushed deeper, and for the moment, the action is almost exclusively being played inside the Portuguese half as Colombia look to regain control of the contest.

João Cancelo then tries to change the angle, drifting inside from the right before curling a left-footed cross into the danger area. The delivery has too much on it, though, and sails harmlessly beyond everyone. Portugal have wrestled back some possession, but they’re still struggling to get Ronaldo involved in dangerous positions.

Cristiano Ronaldo has his first real sight of goal, latching onto a ball over the top, but the move is quickly brought to a halt as the assistant referee raises the flag. The Portugal captain had mistimed his run and was clearly offside.
While it won’t count, it’s an encouraging moment for Portugal. For the first time in the match, they’ve managed to exploit the space behind Colombia’s backline and pick out Ronaldo with a direct pass. If they can time those runs better, the Colombian defence could soon be tested.
